Draymond Green’s retirement plans differ from those of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, the stars who played a pivotal role in the Golden State Warriors’ dynasty, are approaching the twilight of their careers. Having achieved remarkable success in the 2010s, including three championships and another in 2022, it is inevitable that these players will eventually retire. However, it appears that their retirement plans do not align.

Traditionally, legendary players are often given a farewell tour in their final season, a chance for fans and the league to celebrate their contributions to the sport. Kobe Bryant gracefully exited the NBA during the 2016 season, and Paul Pierce attempted to follow suit.

However, Draymond Green has expressed his reluctance to emulate this trend, as he humorously explained on The Draymond Green Show presented by The Volume.

With twelve years of professional basketball under his belt, Green revealed that he plans to play for only two or three more years. He cited a past incident involving Paul Pierce as the reason for his decision. During the 2017 season, Green called out Pierce, who was in his final playing year with the Los Angeles Clippers, stating, “Chasing that farewell tour? They don’t love you like that. You thought you were Kobe?” These words reverberated throughout the sports world, and Green now humorously fears that if he were to seek a farewell tour, someone might respond in a similar fashion, leaving him in an awkward position.

As the careers of Curry, Thompson, and Green wind down, fans will have to wait and see how each player chooses to bid farewell to the game. While some may opt for a grand send-off, it seems that Green, with his unique perspective and sense of humor, will chart a different path as he approaches the end of his basketball journey.
