The Los Angeles Lakers have partnered with Band of Vices, an art and culture company based in Los Angeles, to enhance their annual ‘In the Paint’ initiative for the 2023-24 season. This collaborative effort aims to showcase the Lakers’ and Band of Vices’ dedication to recognizing and supporting creative communities that have historically been overlooked.
The ‘In the Paint’ program, presented by DWS, is an organizational initiative that celebrates and uplifts BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) artists in the LA community. A selection committee will choose 15 artists as Contributing Artists for this year.
These talented individuals will have the opportunity to showcase and sell their artwork on the In the Paint digital marketplace, which features the program’s artists. The net proceeds from the sales will benefit the Contributing Artists and contribute to the growth and development of future In the Paint initiatives.
Additionally, Lakers players and staff will select up to three artworks to purchase and display at the UCLA Health Training Center. This initiative provides a unique opportunity for Contributing Artists to gain exposure for their artwork through In the Paint art exhibitions, an online exhibition, and the Lakers’ digital and social media platforms.
Band of Vices will play a crucial role in educating and supporting these artists throughout their artistic journeys.
