GOAT J15! Kai Havertz and Romelu Lukaku are left looking startled by Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson

Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz combined for less Premier League goals in a season than Nicolas Jackson did when playing for Chelsea. After the Blues’ victory over Newcastle on Monday night, Jackson is expected to score a good amount of goals despite the team’s turbulent season.

Jackson deflected Cole Palmer’s shot past Martin Dubravka with a lovely backheel flick, making it 1-0. Mykhyalo Mudryk and Palmer’s goals in the second half gave his club a 3-2 victory; Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak scored for the visiting team.

The Senegal striker opened the score in a 2-2 draw against Brentford earlier this month, and he has now scored in back-to-back Premier League games. Jackson scored another goal shortly before the break, but after slipping past Sven Botman, he was correctly called offside. However, his finish showed that he was growing more comfortable taking shots in front of goal. He also assisted Mudryk’s effort by dribbling down the left side.

Nine of the 22-year-old’s 12 goals for Chelsea have come in the Premier League, playing in all competitions. He surpasses the big-budget additions Lukaku and Havertz, who cost the Londoners £97 million and £75 million, respectively, with his top-flight total.

With eight goals and one assist in 26 games in 2021–22, Lukaku had his best league performance for the team. In that same campaign, Havertz made 29 appearances and scored the same amount of goals, adding four more assists.

Jackson has played 1,821 minutes in 24 games and scored nine goals in the Premier League. That is the same as just twenty whole games. In addition, he has three assists, tying Havertz’s record for most direct goal contributions (12) in blue.

Jackson, who was acquired from Villarreal in the summer, has come under fire this season for his patchy finishing, but Mauricio Pochettino has stood by his striker. “Nico is 22 years old, he came from a different country and a different league, and everyone has put responsibility on him to score goals,” the Argentine coach stated.

“I think he’s doing great. I am truly grateful for his endeavor. He is quite resilient and demonstrates maturity in his football play by accepting and handling pressure. Even after he has asked for the ball and made a mistake, you can see a player who battles, runs, and wants the ball.

“He never gives up. He is netting goals. I believe he is performing well if we look at him throughout his first season in England. Perhaps far better than people realize. It is challenging to declare that he is outstanding because we are not at the top, but the entire team has experienced this. After receiving criticism for his £65 million transfer, Havertz joined Arsenal last summer and has since developed into a key member of the team. He is one goal behind Jackson with eight goals and three assists in 27 Premier League games, and he might help the north Londoners win their first championship since 2004.

Before the Portuguese manager was fired in January, Lukaku was signed by former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho on a loan at Roma. The 30-year-old, who is anticipated to depart Stamford Bridge permanently this summer, has scored eight goals in cup competitions in addition to his ten goals in 25 Serie A outings.

Jackson will be aiming to reach double figures in Premier League goals during his first season in England. But before then, he wants to help lead the Londoners past Leicester this weekend in the FA Cup semi-finals.
