LeBron James, the basketball icon, and his wife Savannah have been in a relationship since their high school days and currently enjoy a happy life together with their three children.
Both LeBron James and Savannah Brinson attended different high schools in their hometown of Akron, Ohio. Their paths crossed when LeBron, then 17 and a rising basketball star at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, met Savannah, who was two years younger and a cheerleader at a rival school. During that time, a mutual acquaintance informed Savannah that LeBron had requested her phone number. Reflecting on the moment, LeBron’s wife shared with Cleveland Magazine in 2018, “I was like, No, I’m going to get his number.”
Despite never envisioning LeBron James becoming an NBA superstar, Savannah provided unwavering support for her boyfriend from the early days. “I simply saw him as a local basketball hero. He was just an ordinary high school student,” Savannah recounted to Harper’s Bazaar. Reflecting on their journey, LeBron James acknowledged Savannah’s pivotal role, stating, “Savannah was there when I was practicing basketball in the high school gym, when I had nothing, still just an anonymous guy. If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be able to talk to you now,” during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2018.
In 2003, at the age of 19, LeBron James embarked on his professional basketball career, while Savannah, still a high school student, learned she was pregnant. Recounting the challenging moment, Savannah shared with Harper’s Bazaar, “At that time, I was contemplating how to break the news to my parents and what impact it would have on his career. I was truly worried, but he reassured me that it wouldn’t hinder anything, and we persevered.” Throughout her pregnancy, Savannah emphasized her boyfriend’s unwavering support and care.
Their eldest son, LeBron James Jr., affectionately known as Bronny, was born in 2004. Five years later, the couple welcomed their second son, Bryce Maximus. Celebrating their 10-year milestone, LeBron James proposed to Savannah during a New Year’s Eve celebration in France in 2011. Reflecting on the proposal, LeBron likened the moment to the NBA Finals, expressing, “I felt like it was the Finals. I’ve contemplated it for a long time, and then one day the idea just came to me, and I felt that it was part of growing up. I believe this is the woman who has stood by me through all the highs and lows for a long time. I want her to continue being with me, so I felt it was time to speak up,” during an interview with television host Oprah Winfrey.
