Tragic Loss: Nathan Barrett, Younger Brother of NBA Player RJ Barrett, Passes Away

In a deeply saddening turn of events, Nathan Barrett, the younger brother of RJ Barrett, a former New York Knick and current Toronto Raptor, has tragically passed away. The devastating news was shared by Chris Stewart, Nathan’s former youth basketball coach, through an Instagram post on Thursday. At this time, the age and cause of Nathan’s untimely passing have not been disclosed, leaving family, friends, and fans in shock and grief.

Stewart reflected on the memories he shared with Nathan, mentioning that although Nathan had only been part of their team during seventh grade before moving to Florida, the bond between the boys was strong whenever Nathan returned to Mississauga. Stewart vividly remembered seeing Nathan last summer, all grown up with a beaming smile, as he excitedly shared his plans to pursue a career as a pilot.

Stewart emphasized the deep connection he maintains with his former players, assuring them that even if they spent just one season together, they would always be considered family. In light of the immense contributions the Barrett family has made to the basketball community, Stewart urged everyone to keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. He also highlighted the profound tragedy of a parent having to bury their child, reminding everyone to cherish their loved ones and hold them close.

Despite Nathan’s aspirations to become a pilot, it was evident that he shared the same passion for basketball as his older brother RJ and their father Rowan. Just like RJ, Nathan made a name for himself in high school basketball, showcasing his talent at Montverde Academy in Florida.

Meanwhile, RJ Barrett, who had been traded by the Knicks in December after a successful four-plus seasons with the team, was notably absent from Wednesday’s game against Detroit due to “personal reasons.” Furthermore, he has already been taken out of the lineup for the upcoming Friday contest against Orlando.

The entire basketball community mourns the loss of Nathan Barrett and sends their deepest condolences to the Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time.
