King James’ Timepiece: LeBron’s $250,000 Cartier Rivals Jay-Z’s Collection

LeBron James brought some serious bling to the court during the Lakers vs. Warriors game on March 16th. Spotted by the Instagram account @insaneluxurylife, James was sporting a rare and incredibly valuable Cartier Crash watch. This timepiece, also owned by his friend Jay-Z, is estimated to be worth a staggering quarter-million dollars.

The watch wasn’t just about price, though. It was a Cartier Crash ‘Skelton’ in 18k rose gold, one of only two designs ever created by the luxury brand. With such limited production (only 67 pieces!), it’s no wonder the original price of $78,500 in 2016 has skyrocketed in the market. This watch was clearly the perfect finishing touch to LeBron’s outfit, adding a touch of high-end luxury to his game day look.

While a $250,000 watch might be out of reach for most, LeBron James’ net worth of $1 billion allows him a little more wiggle room. Even at that price tag, it represents a mere 0.05% splurge on his Lakers salary for the season.

Thankfully, his performance wasn’t as extravagant as the watch. James put up a solid showing with 40 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists, according to NBA.com, despite the Lakers’ 121-128 loss.

Interestingly, LeBron isn’t the only one with a taste for the Cartier Crash. His good friend, Jay-Z, was spotted rocking the same watch at the “The Harder They Fall” London premiere in 2022, as reported by GQ in 2021. Looks like these two have a thing for matching timepieces!

LeBron James and Jay-Z are good friends

It only makes sense for two of the greatest in their respective industries to be good friends. Over the years, LeBron James has been spotted at Jay-Z’s concerts. Whereas, the latter has been seen watching the NBA superstar’s games. While they often talk about their respect and admiration for each other, not many fans know that they are connected since LeBron’s high school days.

LeBron James’ talent has always been evident, even to his friend Jay-Z. Back in 2023, during an NBA on TNT interview for All-Star Weekend, Jay-Z showered LeBron with praise.

“True greatness is performing at a high level for a long time,” Jay-Z said, according to Basketball Network. “People will remember LeBron’s name as the epitome of greatness long after he retires. There’s simply no one quite like him. A 19-time All-Star, the all-time leading scorer – what else can you say? He’s dominated every era he’s played in. He truly is ‘The Chosen One.'”

Their friendship extends beyond shared admiration. Jay-Z reportedly knew about LeBron’s potential even in high school, recognizing the buzz surrounding his talent. They regularly attend each other’s games and special events, with Jay-Z being among the celebrities who celebrated LeBron’s 39th birthday.
