At 39 years old, LeBron James stands as a towering figure in the realm of basketball, his mastery of the game extending far beyond the confines of age. Positioned at the helm of his illustrious career, he continues to defy expectations and shatter barriers with each breathtaking performance.
By the end of the Los Angeles Lakers’ Sunday night game in Brooklyn, even Nets fans were cheering for LeBron James. The Lakers star sank a career-high-tying nine threes on his way to 40 points as the Lakers defeated Mikal Bridge and the Nets 116-104.
James finished the game having shot 9-for-10 from behind the arc and 5-for-6 from the foul line. He added seven rebounds, five assists and four takeaways in the Lakers win.
James may have set his personal record in the fourth quarter, but his dominance started in the first. He and Anthony Davis led the Lakers on a 17-point run to start out the game.
The game swung the other way as Bridges and the Nets began to push back in the second quarter. The Nets’ recovery was too little, too late to overcome the Lakers’ starters, who combined for 65 of the team’s 67 first-half points. Davis finished the game with 24 points and 14 rebounds, while Rui Hachimura added 20 points and 10 rebounds. This dominance by the Lakers starters’ led fans to predict Los Angeles as a playoff threat.
Los Angeles made it to the Western Conference Finals last season before the team was swept by the Denver Nuggets. This year, fans are expecting James to lead the team on a deeper run.
