Ja Morant’s signature sneaker is getting a new colorway that harkens back to the Memphis Grizzlies’ first uniforms.
While cream forms the majority of the upcoming edition of the Nike Ja 1, which has been given the official moniker “Seasonal,” it’s teal and red accents take after the Grizzlies’ original color scheme and the uniforms the team wore until 2004. Teal forms portions of the midsole and one each of the mismatched tongue logo and no. 12 on the heel, while Morant’s signature appears in red. For a tad more contrast, the heel counter and mustache are both rendered in a darker tan.
Memphis brought back its original jerseys in celebration of its 25th anniversary for the 2019-2020 season, in which Morant was named Rookie in the Year. The look is one of many from the NBA’s big logo era, which many would argue was the peak for the league’s uniforms.
Morant’s first sneaker debuted last spring and was the most-traded signature basketball model on StockX for 2023. With more than 40,000 sales, it nearly doubled the second best performing sneaker, the Nike LeBron 20.
The Nike Ja 1 “Seasonal” hasn’t yet been given a firm release date but is expected to release in April for $120. This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
