The Golden State Warriors secured a commanding 133-110 victory against the Houston Rockets on Thursday night, further solidifying their position in the play-in tournament standings. With their fifth consecutive win, the Warriors appear to be hitting their stride just as the playoffs draw near.
Despite the Houston Rockets briefly narrowing the gap to one game for the 10th seed in the Western Conference in recent weeks, the Golden State Warriors entered the game with a three-game lead, offering a prime opportunity to extend their advantage to four games. Unlike many instances this season where they faltered, the Warriors avoided a lackluster start and seized control early.
The Warriors demonstrated remarkable offensive prowess, shooting an impressive 65% from the field in the first quarter and quickly establishing a double-digit lead. While Golden State consistently found open looks against Houston’s defense, the Rockets’ young roster struggled to match their offensive efficiency.
Klay Thompson delivered a standout performance for the Warriors, shooting 8-for-11 from the field in the first half and finishing the game with a game-high 29 points on 11-for-15 shooting, including 7-for-11 from beyond the arc, along with 3 rebounds and 4 assists.
However, Thompson wasn’t the only Splash Brother excelling on the court. Although Steph Curry didn’t replicate the same success from long range, he still managed to contribute significantly, shooting 9-for-14 from the field for 29 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, even earning nine free-throw attempts.
With the Warriors’ perimeter game operating smoothly, Trayce Jackson-Davis thrived inside the paint, shooting 8-for-10 from the field and accumulating 20 points, along with 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Maintaining a comfortable 65-50 lead at halftime, the Warriors maintained their dominance throughout the game, ensuring their lead never dropped below 13 points in the final two quarters. As a result, head coach Steve Kerr was able to manage his rotation efficiently, with only one Warriors player logging more than 30 minutes of playing time (Curry).
With their record now standing at 42-34 for the season, the Warriors are poised to finish with an above-.500 record for the 11th time in the past 12 years. They will continue their Texas road trip tomorrow as they prepare to face the Dallas Mavericks.
