Former University of New Mexico standout and Los Angeles Lakers icon, Michael Cooper, has further cemented his legendary status following a significant announcement on Saturday. Cooper has earned a well-deserved spot in the prestigious 2024 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He showcased his talents at New Mexico from 1976 to 1978 before being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1978.
Cooper’s illustrious career spanned 11 seasons with the “Showtime” Lakers, during which he secured five NBA Championships alongside fellow Hall of Famers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, and Magic Johnson.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for August 17 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Cooper will be joined by esteemed basketball figures including Seimone Augustus, Dick Barnett, Chauncey Billups, Vince Carter, Doug Collins, Walter Davis, Harley Redin, Bo Ryan, Herb Simon, Charles Smith, and Michele Timms.
