Stephen Curry might have a future volleyball prodigy in his midst!
The 35-year-old NBA star is revealing how his eldest, 11-year-old daughter Riley, is already showing a strong inclination towards sports. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Curry shares that her determination is reminiscent of his own.
“I’ve introduced them to almost every sport,” Curry explains. “But Riley, she’s really taken a liking to volleyball lately. There was a moment this year where it just clicked for her. She’s thrilled about going to practice, practicing dribbling or passing the ball around the house, and all that. So she’s discovered something she’s passionate about, and she’s eager to put in the effort.”
Curry, who spoke to PEOPLE ahead of the debut of his Apple+ documentary Stephen Curry: Underrated, mentions that his younger two children have diverse interests. The Golden State Warriors icon shares that his wife Ayesha, 34, and he have children Riley, son Canon, 4, and daughter Ryan, 7.
“When it comes to their individual interests, they’re kind of all over the place,” Curry remarks. “So it’s not yet clear what those one or two things might be,” he adds regarding the youngest children’s interests. “They’re still young, so we have plenty of time to discover that.”
However, Curry expresses that observing Riley’s attraction to volleyball has been “exciting.” “Witnessing that ‘aha’ moment and that level of concentration, where you see a resemblance of yourself,” he explains, “and endeavoring to nurture that as much as possible.”
In Curry’s new film, his children make appearances, and in one scene, they can be seen doing homework alongside their father as he pursues his graduation from Davidson College — an achievement he accomplished in August 2022.
Throughout his journey, Curry received support from his wife, Ayesha. Speaking to PEOPLE, he emphasizes their commitment to authenticity in sharing their lives with the world.
“While navigating the public eye, it can sometimes be chaotic, and we strive to block out the noise,” he explains. “Overall, we are very supportive of each other’s endeavors and careers, while also prioritizing being present parents and managing the responsibility of caring for our three beautiful children.”
Reflecting on their relationship since they began dating in 2008, Curry acknowledges the evolution of their lives together. “We’ve learned and grown together, inspiring one another to maintain enthusiasm for our pursuits and demonstrating that we can successfully balance it all,” he concludes.
