The New York Knicks may face uncertainty with Ja Morant’s impending knee surgery, affecting the top of the NBA draft board. While the Memphis Grizzlies seem committed to selecting Julius Randolph, the situation remains fluid, reminding observers that draft outcomes can still shift, with the exception of Zion Williamson’s likely selection by the Pelicans at number one.
As for R.J. Barrett, the anticipated third pick, it appears he’s actively avoiding Memphis. He’s publicly expressed a preference for either going fourth to the Lakers or third to the Knicks. Additionally, Barrett has declined the Grizzlies’ invitation for a private workout.
While my opinion of Barrett isn’t particularly strong, I do believe he shows more potential than Morant. The prospect of Memphis potentially changing their draft plans on the night itself would certainly unsettle me if I were a staunch supporter of Barrett. It wouldn’t be the first time a projected pick aimed for New York only to be chosen one spot earlier.
