It’s that time of year again for the Currys as they gear up for the back-to-school season! In the latest edition of PEOPLE magazine, Ayesha Curry shares insights into her new cookbook, The Full Plate, and discusses how she and her husband, Steph Curry, are managing their kids’ schedules amidst the ongoing challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.
“With the kids being so young and full of energy, we’ve been making a concerted effort to get them outdoors whenever possible. We’ve been enjoying family hikes, and during the warmer weather, we’ve been spending quality time together by the pool,” reveals the 31-year-old mother of three.
Regarding the recent start of school for their daughters, Ayesha acknowledges, “We’re right in the thick of it,” as they navigate the intricacies of homeschooling for each of their two older children.
“While our oldest is quite disciplined, making homeschooling relatively straightforward, our 5-year-old struggles a bit to maintain focus for extended periods,” shares the host of Family Food Fight, emphasizing the challenges and adjustments they are making as they adapt to this new educational landscape.
A method that Ayesha and her 32-year-old husband, Steph, have discovered to be effective for their daughter Ryan involves engaging in some form of physical activity just before her classes commence, which helps sharpen her focus and release any excess energy. Additionally, they incorporate periodic “dance breaks” in between lessons.
“We’ve also introduced resistance workout bands attached to the legs of her chair, providing her with a constructive outlet if she becomes restless during lengthy Zoom sessions,” Ayesha explains.
Regarding her latest cookbook, The Full Plate, Ayesha contrasts it with her initial cookbook, The Seasoned Life, noting that each reflects distinct phases of her life.
“As a working mother of three young children now, I find myself with less time for cooking and meal preparation compared to before,” she shares with PEOPLE. “However, because I am committed to maintaining the quality of our meals, I’ve spent the past few years exploring methods to achieve robust flavors in minimal time and effort.”
Recognizing that many busy individuals are encountering similar challenges, I made the decision to gather those recipes and techniques — thus, The Full Plate was born!” she explains.
Ayesha mentions that her Pancake Batter Coconut Shrimp is adored by their children (despite their natural inclination towards fried foods), expressing joy in witnessing her kids embrace and enjoy dishes from her own childhood and past.
Moreover, Ayesha reflects, “Amidst the pandemic, the bright side for our family has been the opportunity to spend this time together with our children. Given that both my husband and I often travel for work, this extended period at home has been truly unprecedented, and we cherish it.”
