Major League Soccer Player of the Month for the month of April 2024 is Lionel Messi, who has been playing for Inter Miami CF and has had an incredible run of form.
The Argentine superstar No. 10 scored six goals and assisted on four more in April, for a total of ten goals contributed, although playing in just four games. The Herons’ outstanding оffensive output helped them attain a record of three wins, zero losses, and one tie, which gave them the upper hand in the Supporters’ Shield competition. They also hold the league records for goals scored (26), goals differential (+10), and points per game (1.91) in Major League Soccer.
Ten of Miami’s goals in April had Messi personally involved. The team scored twelve goals overall. In addition, he created history by being the first player in league history to contribute two goals or more in five consecutive games on different occasions.
Following his first seven games of the 2024 season, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and 2022 FIFA World Cup victor has contributed 16 goals—9 goals scored and 7 assists—to the score—the most ever. He now has more goals scored than the previous record holders, Carlos Vela (13 goals in 2019) and Thierry Henry (13 goals in 2012).
Messi is Miami’s second Player of the Month for the 2024 season, following in the footsteps of fellow FC Barcelona star Luis Suárez. Suárez received the honor for February and the first part of March. Throughout his illustrious career, he has received Player of the Month ten times in addition to this most recent honor. Of those honors, he was the recipient of eight while playing for Barcelona and one while representing Paris Saint-Germain.
