Bronny James: Never thought of teaming with LeBron; want to ‘Make a Name for Myself’

It’s well known that LeBron James has expressed his desire to play alongside his son, Bronny James, in the NBA. He’s openly mentioned this several times.

However, Bronny is focused on simply making it to the NBA and building his own legacy, as he shared with reporters on Tuesday:

Whether Bronny will even be drafted remains uncertain.

Jonathan Wasserman of B/R did not include him in his recent top-50 big board or mock draft. Similarly, Sam Vecenie of The Athletic and ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo also did not project him to be selected in their latest mock drafts.

Kevin O’Connor from The Ringer ranked him 69th on his big board and predicted that the Los Angeles Lakers might take him 55th overall in his mock draft.

There is a possibility that a team looking to sign LeBron this offseason—considering he has a player option with the Lakers he could decline—might draft Bronny to attract LeBron. However, this strategy wouldn’t guarantee LeBron’s signing and could be considered a waste if the team doesn’t rate Bronny as highly as other prospects, especially since second-round picks can sometimes turn into significant players like three-time MVP Nikola Jokić.

As for Bronny’s aspirations in the NBA, he mentioned that he models his game after guards like Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Davion Mitchell.

During his one year in college, Bronny didn’t stand out, averaging only 4.8 points and 2.1 assists per game with a 26.7 percent three-point shooting rate. While he has demonstrated defensive potential and the capability to act as a secondary playmaker, his perimeter shooting requires improvement.

Given his current performance, returning to college to refine his skills would likely be beneficial. However, if he stays in the draft, his aim will be to establish his own legacy rather than relying on his famous father’s reputation.
