NBA Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Ventures into Film Production with Upcoming Heist Comedy

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has done it all on the basketball court, and now he’s adding a new endeavor to his belt.

Christopher Vourlias of Variety reported on Monday that Antetokounmpo has signed on to produce his first scripted feature film under his Improbable Media production company.

The project is described as “an Ocean’s Eleven-style heist comedy set in Greece” from Studio Galazio and filmmaker Christopher André Marks under their new production banner that is “focused on bringing internationally minded stories with Greek themes to global audiences.”

Marks is set to write and direct the film, which also has a veteran team of producers including Shani Hinton, Raphaël Benoliel, Adam B. Stern and Erika Aronson. The plot details and international cast are being “kept under wraps” for now, but Vourlias noted that production is expected to begin later this year.

“We are excited to shine additional light and join the wave of momentum Greek cinema has generated internationally, not only as a high-value shooting location for domestic and foreign productions, but also as a fertile ground for original storytelling that transcends well beyond its borders,” Marks said.

Earlier this year, Antetokounmpo and ESPN analyst Jay Williams teamed up to launch Improbable Media, a production and brand consulting company geared toward telling unique stories. The company’s first project was Giannis: The Marvelous Journey, a documentary on Antetokounmpo that debuted on Amazon Prime in February.
