Ayesha Curry lost 35lbs in 2020 and is now working hard to build more muscle and ‘feel strong’ in her skin in 2023.
The 33-year-old actress — who is married to professional basketball player Stephen Curry — opened up about her resolutions for the new year with People magazine. The influencer started by saying that she is more of a ‘monthly resolution type of girl’ and that it is easier to keep track of her small wins that way.
The chef and cookbook author has been on a three-year health journey, and now that she has lost weight, she aims to define her body.
“One of my major resolutions for January is to build some lean muscle. I’ve shed 35 pounds over the past year, which I’m thrilled about, but now I want to achieve definition and feel strong in my skin.”
They got married in June 2011 and had their first child, Riley, 10, the following year. The couple then welcomed two more children, Ryan, seven, and Canon, four.
Ayesha admitted to People that she has learned not to be competitive with her health and fitness journey and remain happy with the progress she’s already made, especially since she’s had three children in the past 10 years.
She said: ‘I’m married to a high-performance athlete who does it all. And I think I had to be honest with myself and realize that I can’t do that and I don’t have to do that to see the results that I want to see.
‘I kind of had this inner competition that didn’t exist. And so I was almost always defeated in whatever it was that I was doing because I couldn’t do it to that level. I think I had to take a second, take a deep breath and just realize, do what you can, and that’s enough.’
Stephen is the point guard for the Golden State Warriors and is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time and the greatest shooter in NBA history. As part of her New Year’s goal, Ayesha partnered with MyFitnessPal and is taking part in their two-week Jumpstart Your Health Challenge. The app is a nutrition and fitness app that helps its users track meals, learn habits, and reach goals.
‘When the new year comes around every year, everybody’s going all in, balls to the wall, and wants to do the most, and you almost always end up failing.
‘And so with this Jumpstart Your Health Challenge, it just makes it easy. It’s not overwhelming; it’s approachable.’ After spending time making changes, the beauty realized that high-intensity workouts don’t work for her.
‘So for me, taking a hike and being out in nature, or going for a jog, or working out for 20 minutes instead of an hour actually works better for me. And I started to see more results. Pilates and yoga and hiking, that’s the stuff that I saw the most change.’
Ayesha shared her thoughts on being kind to herself during her fitness journey and encouraged others to do the same when they are attempting to meet their goals for the new year. She said: ‘You might have a day where it doesn’t feel great, and it’s not working, and that’s okay. But know that any step, whether big or small, is a step in the right direction.’
