In particular, Kevin Durant is excited to be playing alongside Stephen Curry and LeBron James for Team USA at the Olympics in Paris this summer.
When asked if there was any added significance to competing in another Olympics alongside superstars like James and Curry, Durant responded, “Yeah, you could say that,” to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps at the 1:19 mark. “Respect is all that is needed for these guys. For the past 15, 20, years, you have witnessed their careers. Thus, it’s really nice to finally be teammates—and it’s not just them; I also feel the same way about Anthony Davis—to be able to sit and see what they do in the locker room after all these years of admiration.”
But Durant, James, and Curry don’t regard the Summer Olympics as their last chance.
“These guys are still playing at an elite level,” he stated. “I think Bron could play for another four or five years.” In 2028, he might be in Los Angeles. Steph continues to play excellently. I’m doing rather well, too. That’s not how I want to look at it; I still believe we have some excellent ball left in us. Make an effort to influence the game and contribute. It’s about trying to win this fifth [gold medal] in a row; I don’t want this to be like a farewell tour or to be just about the three of us.”
Surprisingly, Durant, 35, has represented Team USA in the last three Olympics but has never worn a suit with both James and Curry. Curry, who is vying for his first gold medal, has never competed for Team USA at the Olympics. He paired up with James in 2012.
With ten NBA titles between them, the three are perhaps the undisputed superstars of their generation. Teams that featured one of James, Durant, or Curry on their roster won the championship eight times between the 2011–12 and 2021–22 campaigns.
Curry and Durant were well-known colleagues on two of those Golden State Warriors squads. It will be entertaining for basketball enthusiasts to watch the trio together when they play for Team USA.
