Soon, LeBron James will add Olympic flag bearer to his already illustrious resume. Earlier this month, American athletes selected the all-time leading scorer in the NBA to represent their country in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
“It’s an incredible honor to represent the United States on this global stage, especially in a moment that can bring the whole world together,” James said in a press release. As an Akron native, this duty means the world to me, my family, my hometown’s children, my teammates, my fellow Olympians, and countless other aspirational people nationwide. Sports have the ability to unite people, and I’m honored to be a part of this significant occasion.”
This year, James is not the only NBA player to get that award. Dennis Schroder will represent Germany, and Giannis Antetokounmpo will represent Greece. This year’s opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on the Seine, a 483-mile river that runs through the center of Paris, providing all three with the exceptional opportunity to lead their nation’s delegation by boat.
This is a look at every NBA and WNBA player who has represented their nation in the Olympics before this year’s celebrations begin on July 26 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
