Stephen Curry makes his Olympic debut, excited about “reuniting” with Kevin Durant on the US team

After the 110-87 victory over Serbia, Stephen Curry shared with reporters how excited he was to be on the field with the US team stars.

Olympic basketball offers a special opportunity for top NBA stars to become teammates, truly competing together instead of playing in friendly and entertaining matches.

Never having played at the Olympics, Stephen Curry is fully enjoying this experience and is extremely excited. Along with names like LeBron James, Joel Embiid or young talent like Anthony Edwards, Curry mentioned a special teammate, Kevin Durant.

After the 110-87 victory over Serbia, Stephen Curry shared with reporters how excited he was to be on the field with the US team stars:

“I have never played in an Olympic match and I have to admit that it feels It’s really great. Besides playing for the team, one thing I really enjoy is being teammates with people I’ve never been on the same side of.”

Speaking more about Kevin Durant, Curry said he was happy to reunite with his former teammate after 6 years: “I’m pretty happy to be in the same locker room with Kevin Durant again and it’s always great to see KD shine like that.”

“I spent 3 years as teammates with KD and know how good he is. Being reunited in the US team jersey is something special and I’m very grateful for it.”

Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant spent 3 years as teammates with the Golden State Warriors, almost dominating the entire NBA throughout 3 seasons from 2016 to 2019.

The current coach of the US team at the 2024 Olympics, Steve Kerr, was also the captain of the Warriors at that time. He led his two students and the Oracle Arena team to 131 victories in 168 matches (winning rate of 77.9%).

This is also the most glorious period in the careers of both Curry and Durant when they won the championship two years in a row (2017 and 2018). The Golden State Warriors returned to the NBA Finals in 2019 but fell after two injuries to Kevin Durant (torn Achilles tendon) and Klay Thompson (torn knee ligament).

Speaking more about the match, Stephen Curry highly appreciated the favorable result against Serbia. A victory in the opening match will greatly help the spirit of the US team at the Olympics.

“The victory against Serbia gives the whole team confidence, a uniform and united image. The important thing is that we will try to build on it to continue to improve in the upcoming matches,” said captain Curry.

“Hopefully we will play all 6 matches at the Olympics and win all of them to get the gold medal. Every game is important and we will not take any game or opponent lightly.”

The U.S. team’s next match is at 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 1. Their opponent is South Sudan, a team that almost beat the U.S. team in a series of friendlies ahead of the 2024 Olympics.
