France bÒ½at Japan 94–90 in overtime in the men’s basketball competition of Paris 2024 here on Tuesday. Matthew Strazel’s four-point play tied the game in regulation, and Victor Wembanyama scored eight points in overtime to help France win.

There were 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and the score was 84–80. Strazel made an off-balance 3-pointer that drew a foul, giving him a chance to send the game into OT. The guard, who had 17 points, made the next free throw and kept France from falling off the edge of the cliff.

French had a 92-84 lead in OT after center Wembanyama scored the first eight points. He had 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists.

The last point Japan scored was a 3-pointer by Yuki Kawamura with 34 seconds left. Makoto Hiejima made another one to make it 92–90, but Japan couldn’t turn the game around in eight seconds.

Even though Rui Hachimura scored 25 points and had seven rebounds and six assists, he was sent off for his second unsportsmanlike behavior foul at the start of the fourth quarter. Kawamura had 29 points.

China bҽat Brazil 86–73 on Tuesday, giving them a 2-0 record in Group A. France and Japan are also 2-0, while Japan and Brazil are 0-2 in Group B.

Teams in Group A played each other. Canada bҽat Australia 93–83 in the second game, and Greece lost their second straight game to Spain 84–77.

Australia led for most of the first quarter, but Canada was following them. The game tied three times in the first quarter, and Australia held on to a 28-26 lead.

More games were close and the lead changed a lot in the second quarter. Australia went into the locker room with a 49-45 lead.

In the third quarter, Canada finally turned things around and went ahead 72–70. In the fourth quarter, a 9–0 run gave Canada its first double-digit lead, 83–72 with 4:29 minutes left, and Australia never really got close after that.

As a team, Canada’s RJ Barrett had 24 points and seven rebounds, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dillon Brooks each had 16. Aussies Josh Giddey scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out six assists. Jock Landale scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
