AC Milan has shown interest in signing Harry Maguire from Manchester United

After falling out of favor with manager Erik ten Hag, the 30-year-old has been extensively linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

Maguire, who started only eight games at center back in the Premier League last season, is a less popular option than Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Victor Lindelof.

Maguire was widely expected to sign for West Ham United this past summer after losing the leadership, but a transfer to the London Stadium never materialized.

However, Maguire has only started two of Man United’s 11 games this season across all competitions, and the defender has lately hinted that he may consider leaving if he continues to play less than “once every month.”

TalkSPORT reports that AC Milan are among numerous Serie A clubs keeping tabs on Maguire’s status, which might present competition for West Ham’s signature.

Maguire’s career at Old Trafford may have stalled, but he might follow that of former United defender Chris Smalling, who has found new life in Italy with Roma.

Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are additional Englishmen now playing in Italy alongside Chris Smalling and the rest of the Roma squad.

Tomori has become a mainstay in the Rossoneri’s first squad since joining them from Chelsea in 2021. He has appeared in 116 games for the club across all competitions since then, including 45 in the 2017–18 campaign alone.

Meanwhile, Loftus-Cheek moved from Stamford Bridge to San Siro over the summer and has appeared in midfield eight times, with five of those appearances coming in Serie A.

Maguire has just under two years left on his contract with Man United, so it is unclear if he would be interested in a move abroad at this point in his career.

The Red Devils are reportedly looking into the market for a new central defense, which has led to speculation about Maguire’s future.

United are rumored to have their sights set on 22-year-old Goncalo Inacio of Sporting Lisbon, although that could change depending on what happens with Maguire.

The Red Devils have been connected to a number of players, including Benfica’s Antonio Silva, Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba. Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi has also been mentioned as a prospective target.

Furthermore, Lindelof, Maguire’s teammate, has stated his wish to remain at Man United and has stated that it is “quite likely” that the club will trigger the one-year option to extend his contract.
