On June 15, Gervonta Davis will take on Frank Martin in the Sin City. Announcing his return after more than a year, Davis stands unbeaten at 29, and 27 have been knockouts. As he looks to spring back from the Ryan Garcia TKO headliner, the No. 2 of the lightweight list has a long-time admirer from the NBA. As social media erupted at the bout announcement, Ja Morant quickly joined the bandwagon with a 4-word message.
A few minutes ago, the Memphis Grizzlies star took to his official X account to share his excitement. He highlighted the upcoming bout, and tweeted, “They ain’t fw tank”. Further, in a preceding message, he wrote “ASAP” after another X user tagged Gervonta Davis and wrote, “We need you on the TV screen fam”.
The NBA Playoffs are currently in full swing. Therefore, it’s interesting that the point guard commented on something that won’t occur for another two months. However, given that the Grizzles failed to make it past the regular season with their 27-55 record, it would make sense for the NBA star to divert his focus toward other sports.
Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ made the highly anticipated announcement on his official social media handle. The fighter himself shared a poster of the upcoming bout with his 6.9 million followers. The WBA super lightweight title will be placed at stake, with the winner getting the ultimate recognition and love from fans worldwide. Interestingly, Ja Morant is not just any background admirer. In fact, the two of them have a history!
Ja Morant once gifted Gervonta Davis a Grizzles Jersey
The NBA star and Tank have shared a friendship based on mutual respect. When the Grizzlies lost Game 3 against the Lakers during the 2023 playoffs, he received a Facetime call from the boxer. Notably, Davis had finished and won his fight against Ryan Garcia barely an hour ago. Instead of dwelling on his loss, Morant decided to instead celebrate someone else’s win.

Several people around the fighter captured pictures of the gifts Morant sent Tank, one of them being a Memphis Grizzles jersey. He posed for the camera alongside the attire printed with the name “Morant” and the number “12” with an autograph from the player himself. The NBA pro also wrote, “Lova brudda”. The fighter was also sent a pair of “Day One” Nike Ja 1s!
